The Queen hated her time at court. Before her was an endless line of petty nobles and minor functionaries, each looking back at her with false adoration and real averice. She groaned inwardly at the thought of unending stacks of papers that all urgently demanded her attention. Todays work had only just started and already she was wishing she could just quit the palace and take one of her long walks.
She continued signing proclamations, and deferring to the advice of her wiser advisors who seemed to have more time to devote to these "pressing" matters. Her Council consisted of the representative of the seven major noble houses of Port Royale. This suited the Queen just fine; the nobles were all highly educated and seemed to know what was best for the Port. Still, she was the Queen, and that ment endless hours of reading through petty requests and complicated documents that she did not fully understand.
One letter caught her attention. It was written in a style that, to put it simply, was not seen often. Quite simply, it stood out from the verbose and pompose writing the nobles felt they had to do.

Ever attentive to her Royal Majesty's needs, the Lord and adviser bent over and whispered to her. "What is it, my Queen?"
Aquinas pursed her lips and asked, "What do you make of this, Lord Advisor? Do you know who he is?"
The advisor quickly read the note. "Yes, my Queen, he is a shop keeper in the lower part of town." The contempt in his voice was evident, but Aquinas did not seem to notice. "I am already familiar with the matter and I will deal with it personally. It is not worth your attention, your Highness".
"The lower part of town?" Aquinas was familar with what went on down there. She also knew her power there was limited. Between the Night Masks, the Black Hand, and the Silver Runner pirates, it was usually safer, and more profitable, to not pay as much attention to what happened in the southern bourghs of the city.
"Oh thank you Lord Hibbing," she responded easily, "you are most kind. I don't know how I would ever get through all this, if it wern't for help from others such as your self" Truely, Aquinas relied hevily on her advisors, including Lord Hibbing, especially in matters involving the criminal element of Port Royale.
All at once, another person was at the foot of the throne, begging for the Queen's boon. Aquinas forgot about the lettet almost immediatly, her thoughts drifting to a long walk in her gardens, where at least she would have some peace.
The day wore on slowly, but at least some matters were already dealt with. |

*As Johe reads the public note on his door, warrior dressed in blue emerges from an alley and hands a letter written on rough paper to him*
My friend Johe. I find the downshutting of your store to be a disaster for the Guyvers. I therefore offer my aid in any way I can, so that your store may be reopened. If all attempts, either peaceful or violent, fails, we still got some spare huts in Tanglewood that can be at your disposal if needed.
