Gold Encumbrance System?

Yes, no, maybe?

There's quite a number of different gold encumbrance systems out there which can be easily adapted.

Well, if you wanna do it, maybe there's a way to make diff types of coins? (matarial, shape, size etc etc) maybe puttin coins in the inventory? each diff type will have other value and will it's weight will be diff..

I think it can be adpated, as long as there will be other ways to store gold.. maybe making a bank?
or safes...
maybe puttin gold in a place and get tokens, and the tokens will be useable.. like chips in casinos or printed money...

as well I was thinking, maybe there's a way to make a bank, which beside keeping gold, will have safes room? and ppl will be able to rent a safe, and store there 1 page of presistent information..
and ppl will need to pay for each RL day their safe is in use or something...

if there wont be any way to store the gold.. i think it wont be really fun.. and not so usefull.. ppl will just stock gems.. instead of gps.. and the marchents will have much more gold then they should have.. =P

I'm not really too concerned with any gold encumberance. In my opinion it's a reality-step too far....... people can always rp promisory notes and such if they wish to do so.

Cheers

I'm not personally a big fan of gold encumbrances system, but am raising it here as a potential robust solution towards gold / etc.

If it is no longer feasible to carry large amounts of gold around, and they need to be stored somewhere with a mechanism that we can countercheck (perhaps by an increasing ratio as the deposit increases), it seems to provide a handle at first place for gold being around.

I actually think this is a bang-up idea. While Dens' idea for taxation is ingenious, I think it will end up punishing players without a lot of gold. Also, it seems to me that just coming up with methods to make things cost more, or have more "cool" stuff to buy is kind of arbitrary.

I think gold should have weight, and that people should be able to store it in the persistent chests that will eventually be in character's rooms. That way, it will still be a pain to store (ie. 4 inventory squares in their chest), and it's also open to theft -- which could lead to adventures! Of course, you could always dispose of it by giving all the gold you can't carry (ala 1st ed. AD&D Paladins and Rangers) to the Seven Sisters...

Well instead of carrying around old that gold, perhaps you could exchange money for "notes" (Similar to Anarchy Online) this way, you could put a weight to it,and actually have an economy, and merchants can only accept notes? Ex: 100,000 gold = M Note, 100 gold = C note, 10,000 = D note, etc;. realistically, the papers would have all the same weight =)
