DMs': Guk's Quest: Tears of Elbereth Posted: 10 Oct 2004 03:04 AM |
Right then, I couldnt be bothered to run this for Fuzzies after recent experiences. So had an NPC monster Ive been using called a dark dreamer turn up and "hire" Benny's thief, Elrith, whom is turning evil.
Just in case you dont already know, she has sworn herself to Tarik Barnas.
Anyway, she agreed to go and steal the tears of elbereth from the cavern of sorrows. It was a real thieves solo quest, elven clerics guarding that were too powerful for her but had lowish spot and search, traps dotted around, areas she had to be nimble and edge her way round, etc, etc. Benny rp'd it quite brilliantly, even leaving dummy packages where the gems were located so it wouldnt be noticed too fast that they were gone.
All the while she got pleading messages from the "spirits of the cavern" explaining the harm she was doing to herself and others, and begging her to turn back to the Mother. She is set on her path. And so at the end she left with the gems, became evil and the dark dreamer rp'd out giving her the power to eventually become a shadowdancer. She knows she now has some essence of the dark dreamer wrapped around her heart, some shadowy power that dulls all compassion and similarly "weak" emotions.
She has been told to deliver the gems to my Guk cleric, though not told that is what he is. From there I will hold them until Dens is back and decides how he wants to use them. Im going to put a post up on the forums with some IC warnings for followers of Elbereth, so just wanted to make sure all DM's know what has happened.
The gems themselves are described as embodiments of Elbereth's sorrow and power, crystallised into beautiful, priceless gems by the never ending streams from that cavern. A veil of illusion over the entire place was lifted for Benny to find the gems, and be subjected to the traps and guardians.
Thats it folks,

Right then Elrith has delivered the gems to my Guk cleric, after a great little rp session where she got very confused by my initial claim to be a priest of Elbereth. *grins*
Whenever I see her around ladriel or similarly "natural beauty" spots I have local wildlife attack her. This is to give people a clue that Elbereth is angry at her. Remember that she is only low level...the grizzly I set on her killed her. *chuckles* And the Roc, well that was just funny. :0)
((btw B, any preference on how to do Tarik resses on Macha's behalf? I hate free resses for non-clerics that just pray but know Macha is a bit special, so I just cast an acid fog spell on them both after Macha prayed then dm healed Elrith. Hope thats ok, seemed to work. :0) ))
Seriously though, Im trying to stick to falcons and such like swooping down and attacking Elrith and then flying off. Gives other players a clue something is up, though nobody has even come close to figuring out why she is being targetted apart from Benny himself.
But she is becoming nervous of such spots. So be cool if other DM's can do this too. And also, until Dens gets back and my cleric gets a chance to get rid of the gems, if you see me playing my cleric in such an area feel free to do likewise to me. Im not playing it that Elbereth knows exactly where they are, but animals in close proximity would recognise them and attack the thief.
Cheers folks,
Sean |

I've done Tarik raises as the character appearing back to life with no visual FX, sending a descriptive tell to Macha and the other PC- usually something along the lines of "You feel a cold burst of air shoot through your very veins, and the feeling that you are being hunted sends shivers down your spine as your eyes reopen"

Dens is back :)
I just had a thought.. is there any way to make 'undead' animals? (any haks or something already in NWN?) it could be really neat - Guk gets the stones, and is able to do such things (i.e till now the animals' souls are guarded by Elbereth or something like that)
but well, that's just an idea - we should talk at the IRC ;)

*bump*
Need to get this rolling so all sorted IG in time for Halloween. *nudges Dens* :0)
Elrith now owes Guk 2 favours. Mandrake owes 1. So they can be used to help corrupt the tears.
And a reminder to Ara (or pd) if at all possible to do the same effect at Elbereth's tears as already exists on the river in naillamne tower grounds. Near where the nimblewights are found...a kind of reddish fog that tinges the water.
Hopefully get players a bit stirred up.
Cheers,

The thing is - I still got no idea what to do with the stones.
is it possible that 3 will be found during the quest and the fourth, I will use later on for a plot? (once I figure the best use for it =o)
I am really idealess about these.. so if anyone feels like helping.. *shrugs* that's the time to say so =p

ok...
Send one with PC's acting as an envoy to Syn. That was your idea anyway, and can tie in well with the vampire plot. The only DM interaction needed for that is some rp from a vamp lord or valinor himself if you can be bothered.
Then have one taken to the deaths head tomb where all the liches are. There is a locked gate in that tomb PC's have never been past. Could unlock it for the quest, put some very high level undead in there and that could be the high level part of the halloween quest, retrieving the stone from there.
And then maybe give one to Gorlath...who has Luther as a bodyguard. *grins* So rp negotiations called for.
And then final one have Elrith herself corrupt, by killing a bunch of goodly creatures you name and set up and bathing the stone in their blood. That can be the final stone you keep for yourself.
Something like that anyway?
Cheers,

We will need to buff Valinor's castle - because IIRC if you orgenize 5 lvl 10 PCs and clear the place. which means they wont talk.
(If it's talk or die.. they will talk =p)
But I dont know of any PCs that follow Syn, maybe Guk will just hand it to the vampires in order to cause havoc.
Oh - and I could find PCs as Keron, and hire them to steal the stones for him. (he would love to do experiments on these) so it will be funny to see how the groups will handle it :)
Death tombs - no problems here :)
Gorlath - didnt know Luther had any connections to him.. but if he has - it should work :)
Elrith.. hmm.. no, I dont think so. She is already being hunted by almost everyone.
So Guk could keep the stone to himself without handing it.
What would be nice - is to cause a split in the players: having some gods that want to grab a hold on the stones [e.g. Midoran maybe? Tarik without doubt] and then they will need to talk it out during the event.

Sounds cool. My ideas were also aimed at stuff to run as a build up to the event...Elrith for one is expecting Guk to be in contact, through me or another intermediary, to start re-paying her debt.
And you really -should- make Lytton suffer terribly as Mandrake in repaying his debt...just cos its Lytton! *grins*

Going to start bumping threads that related to major plotlines, for consideration to be opened to players. Just as and when I come across them, so expect some spamming! :P
