*mumbles in embarassment* I died (in confusion) Posted: 14 Sep 2004 03:48 PM |
Okay, a dire badger was fine with my cheery character. I walk past it no problem. I enter a cave, spot a nasty insect and retreat into the sunlight and have a gander at my inventory when I'm outside *wonder what this eyeball does* .
Then that pesky dire badger suddenly hates me (maybe the wind changed and I was standing upwind of it? ) and is upon me within a second (and badgers have powerful forearms and big claws don't you know)
Anyway, I could sort of see why an animal might be unpredictable I guess.
Was this normal behaviour from the badger?
Just so I know if there are no safe places :)

Animals such as Badgers, Wolves, Bears etc are sometimes non-hostile to Druids and/or Rangers, dependent on a check against that person's Wilderness Lore/Animal Friendship skills and/or levels (can't remember how it -exactly- works anyone else? :P).
So yeah it's pretty "normal" behaviour As you reach higher levels in those classes then they will attack you much less frequently (indeed if at all).
I'll have to check up on this though :)
Bad luck!

Oh......... until you're quite a high level, I'll give you a piece of advice. Stay the hell away from Grizzly Mastodons, dire Rhinos and Elephants, Sabretooths, and......... for that matter.... Rocs :)
Cheers

I believe that those animals will always not attack a ranger/druid who makes a simple Animal Empathy check.
All other characters make a much harder CHA check each round.
Fail, and they attack. Like a hoarde of rabid penguins. Hoorah!
