Load Screen Hints
Posted: 02 Jul 2004 06:15 PM
Hey all. I just had a bit of a light bulb of something to add to the customization of Vives and maybe add a bit of flavour to the world. Custom Load Screen Hints. I'd like to get help from you all of what to put in them. So please post any Vives-specific one-liners you can think of. Anything from flavour lines such as: "When in Port Royal, be sure to try a 'Mindflayer' from Merum's Broken Mask Tavern and Inn" Or general info hints like: "Can't find anyone? Try using your PC info widget, or type '/pcinfo'" Also welcome would be one-liners about your characters if you like.

Post 'em here, and I'll get them in. I dont know if there is a maximum, but there are currently 88 in the default Bioware version. Lets try to get at least that many.

Thanks

Could you also make custom pics for load screens?

Like using Vives map closer ups of the current area with an X showing where you currently are and such.

[Ed: Alo]Custom loadscreens are doable, and I wouldn't mind having a custom one for the entry area, but they are a lot more work, especially the map thing. But lets try and leave that for another topic discussion and use this one just for the Load Screen Hints Wink

Despite what many of the holier sects of Vives preach, death is not the end of life, search not only the light, but the shadows and you'll find answers to these dark secrets. Sometimes you must scrape away the gold foil.

As the most uncelibate of monks and perhaps the most uncharismatic; Kord had grown accustomed to Candy's put downs.

[hehe.... the "sunny Port Royale" tip got me laughing]

* The language widget allows communication in racial or class specific languages. Find out more in Vives' Player's Handbook.

* Scheduled boat travel is available to and from specific destinations during certain days and times. Planning ahead for any overseas journey will make for a better, more enjoyable voyage. Bon voyage'!

* Blurbs about any/all of the various dieties. That would knock the count down a bit.

* Blurbs about any of the 'known' organizations and governments (Paladins of Midoran, Queen Whatshername of Port Royale, Vidus the Impaler, etc. etc.). Maybe even some hints on the quasi-organizations... Fire Knives, The White Badgers (or whatever that recently formed anti-Midor terrorist group is namedTongue out )

A variation on this idea is to combine it with what Mykal (iirc) was looking to do with "Common Knowledge" posts here in the forums.

Perhaps on area entry on maps with major points of interest, some Common Knowledge about that specific area could be added.

Example:
On entering Asashi, a fuller description of the Monk Order could be presented. This idea won't work technically if the amount of text that can be displayed is too restrictive.

Be nice and polite to Clerics and Priestesses as you never know when you might need to be saved.

Donations can be made to all Clerics.

Useing polite titles for people you have just met might stop you from making enemys.

Adictive Rating: 1 Do remember to eat

2 Do you know what time it is

3 Have you seen the sun today

4 Do you know how to use a shower

5 Are you attached to the computer

6 How can you still be playing

-If conversing with Muga Bugbreath, -dont- stand too close, her surname is most apt.

-Read area descriptions carefully, hints as to when you are entering a dangerous area can oft be found there.

-The volcano named Fiirhallen is rumoured to be the temple of Naruth, goddess of beauty and fire. Trespassers beware.

-Daimon Rabianara is the leading weaponsmith and crafter of fine armour in the land.

-Luther McIath, the legendary monk, is rumoured to be able to manufacture magical bags with extraordinary capabilities.

-Shop around, its worth getting to know all the merchants.

-Located just north of Midor, the great plains campfire is a common meeting ground for adventurers.

-Seek travelling companions, the wilds of Vives are oft lethal for the lone wanderer.

Alright, some more:

*** Beware the Dark Quickling.

*** Use /setDesc to set a short [enter # of characters of text allowed] in-character, role-playing style description of your character. Use /readDesc to read any character description in the immediate area.
[correct my syntax please, if I'm incorrect]

*** Fri'el's not really bad. She's just drawn that way.

*** If you see a full-grown dragon, it is best to shout warning to your comrades and flee. Unless you were too slow, and you are already dead. At which point, it is best to be still and to remain quiet.

*** Giants make a satisfactory sound when they fall. Enjoy!

*** Death Slaadi are nature's way of telling you something is wrong.

*** Engage Fengus the Foul-Mouthed in conversation at every opportunity. Ask him to sing or tell jokes if you're in a tavern with polite company.

*** Drink Alo's Apple Juice. Remember, don't be a litterbug. Dispose of empty bottles properly.

Re: Load Screen Hints

Boring technical ones from me :)

- Spellcraft is a vital skill for spellcasters that want to use scrolls of a higher rank than they could normally cast.

- Use Magic Device or UMD offers a Rogue a better chance of using a scroll, wand or rod successfully, but by no means guarantees it.

- Be aware that any class you take, you must take three levels in. For dual class this must be done by level 7 and tri-class by level twelve.

- To make your familiar or summoned creature talk, type for example "/dm ;hello" (without quotations).

- To type in your racial language, type for example "/dm [hello]" (without quotations).

- Most beneficial spells a mage casts upon themselves, will also affect their familiar (not summons).

((please amend any of these if incorrect !!))

cheers,
Jane

- You've never believed that love conquers all. That is, until love invades the area, enslaves your subjects, and sows your fields with salt.

- The power of love was never as apparent as the day that it obliterated an entire Midoranite armoured division in field tests.

- A lot of times, you must do things that don't seem right at the time, but turn out for the best. For example: that crate of puppies wouldn't have been on the business end of the mallet unless it really wanted to be.

- Should you run into Lord Distorqueo as he spouts obscenities and curses in your general direction, the best advice is to ignore him. That way, when you're not looking, it will be easier for him to make you combust.

- Be wary of evil. It will sneak into your home, kidnap your pie, and eat your children.

Do not ask of them questions. You will receive three answers, all of which are true and horrifying to know.

- First impressions define relationships. When introducing yourself, use large and grieviously wounding objects--they leave impressions no one can forget.

- If someone asks you for a donation, give it to them. You don't want to pay any hidden costs for denying such a request.

- Remember, gnomes are people too--if only just barely.

- What is the best thing in life? To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women.

- Avoid creatures of Impossible challenge rating. These are the type to kill you, your friends, your pets, and then wade knee-deep in the blood of your children, all before tea and crumpets.

- Don't know what to do in a romantic situation? Pick up a copy of "Margrave's Guide to Lovin'". Barring injuries, they'll be back for more.

- If in dire straits, call upon the power of your god for assistance. It's doubtful anyone's listening, but it sounds neat and makes you feel good inside.

Do not ask of them questions. You will receive three answers, all of which are true and horrifying to know.

- When confronted with a difficult decision, remember to think positive. For example: Don't think about which bag of kittens NOT to smash. Destroy them both in a fiery wreckage of pain and kitten-goo.

- Vives has an relatively advanced civilization. Its people no longer cannibalize their enemies for purely nutritious reasons. They also do it to gain their power.

- Vives is a world of dedicated players. Even after some experience their 100th death, they continue to play, rather than cry themselves to sleep.

- Always question the authorities. Midor wouldn't be the place it is today without the diversity of opinions that abound within it.

- Prepare for every contingency. It is the surest way to avoid a horrifying and grotesque death, but even that's no guarantee.

- Sometimes, murder is the only option available. The only choice you have is whether or not to use poison. From the looks of things, the choice has already been made.

Do not ask of them questions. You will receive three answers, all of which are true and horrifying to know.
