Those look great, Ara.
I really like that aqueduct. Lots of potential there. I might have asked this before so i appologize if I am repeating myself. But can you walk both through the tunnel as well as swim in the aqueduct? Or does the walk mesh not allow for that kind of stacking?
If not, be careful about those balconies with open undersides. It breaks the illusion of 3D space if you can't walk both under and on top of the deck. |

It's just a trick really ;)
There can only be one walkmesh layer, so you cannot go over a bridge and under the same one....... it's just impossible with NWN1, due to the way it's made. However if you're careful you can create an "illusion" so to speak. So you can walk all the way under that Aquaduct and other tunnels, and you can also walk on top of the aquaduct/wade through the water etc......... but not where it dissects where you walk under.
The Balconies are bare-bones at the moment........ most people would keep barrels/storage/garbage and other such things under them. However, they're quite a small walkmesh, and you won't notice at all that you can't actually go under and over at the same time.
That's the plan anyway ;)

Why I'm pleased with these results, is that virtually ALL placeables have no underside texture, including Houses. There is actually a short tunnel under one of the battlement placeables (Crossroads keep, if you've seen it in game). But it has towers on top and I couldn't really use it for the Aquaduct. People have been having great difficulty with making convincing exterior tunnels due to the lack of textures, and other such issues. Now, I'm quite a happy bunny, as we can have huuuuge and complex tunnels/underground arches and so forth, that look convincing, and with a sleight of hand (or mouse) also making it look completely 3 dimensional :) |

Taken a couple of quick screens, as there haven't been any updates in a while..... these are coming along nicely, still a lot of work required and they're a little rough around the edges (no real placeables, lighting etc yet.... also a little more texturing and so forth required)..... these 2 are brand new, I've scrapped the 2 previous incarnations of this place completely and started from scratch -again-! Looking good now, we might be sticking with this version ;)

No placeables in there? How did you make those nets on the boats?
The mountains and buildings in the background really add to the overall affect. It looks more like a place than an "area" in a game.
I really like those staggered boards on the dock. It looks like some slapdash carpenters have been maintaining the place. Very nice touch!
I do have one question. All the woodwork looks new. Woodwork thats been out in the sun and the salt very typically gets a silvered appearance. Pier pilings are usually dark because they are soaked with pitch and seawater. You could do this for roof shingles as well I suppose. Seaside buildings would have to have a heavy dose of stain and paint to keep the woodwork dark. I think that is why whitewash is a traditional covering for woodwork in new england towns.
So I'm just wondering what that place smells like? I'm imagining a heady smell of pitch mixing with the smell of fish and salt. Either that or you've got the scent of turpentine from all the dwarven painters running around to treat the woodwork on a weekly basis. :) |

Oops, yeah, also no tinting as of yet Will be able to give the buildings etc a more weathered look if needs be :)
The nets and slapdash docks are simply on the placeables already, the only ones I've placed (apart from stairs and buildings) are a few street lights. |

hah. You shouldn't have told me that. I thought you modeled those nets yourself as part of the scenery. Er... actually I am glad you did, because if the tool for terrain modeling was that sophisticated, I would have gone out and bought a copy of the game along with a new computer to run it.
And you can simply change the tint on each bit of wood work as you need to? Thats awesome.
Your work looks great. I can't wait to see more of these. |

It takes at least 10x more work to build a nice looking area in nwn2 over nwn1.
The finishing touches will take some time :)

I didn't really want to put these up yet, but I've been promising for a while so here you go! They're very bare-bones, in that there's no ambience/texturing/lighting etc, but the skeleton is there I guess.... I'm happier with the area so far than these screens though.

| In vives 1 I often get problems with trees etc blocking my view to my character during combat. The trees in vives look great from just behind the characters shoulder but this is not realy practical when you are trying to run away from monsters. Will this be the same in Vives 2? |

In NWN2/Vives 2 you can set all trees to fade on the player's end....... so entirely up to you!
There is an option in the NWN2 toolset for us builders to enable the trees to fade or not.... some I am setting to no fade, but not in combat orientated areas or tight spaces.... however, you will be able to over-ride these settings I believe :) |
