Just a quick note to say that the event which was originally planned for today will now take place next weekend. There will still, however, be related mini quests run during the week connected with this and future planned occurrences, so be on your guard.

Just to repeat, the event which was planned for 7pm UK time today will now not take place as scheduled, though it is NOT cancelled, merely postponed.

Nariel rose from her prayers with a slight frown.

'That damned auction... ' she thought, "it has certainly complicated matters."

She had hoped that the shard could be retrieved from Nu'men peacefully, that somehow a diplomatic solution could be found, but with Malakai still alive...

However, with the blessing of the Mother it may still be possible... and if not...

She called over a nearby druid. "Send out word to all interested," she said quickly, "it is important that they gather here urgently."

With a nod the druid ran off, leaving Nariel to watch after her with an extremely worried expression.

A multicoloured cloud hangs over the Isle of Mystique, momentarily blocking out the sun with its bulk. Slowly, the blob separates, until all that is left of the variegated mass are a number of organised formations of parrots, wheeling about in the tropical air.

A commanding squawk from atop the isle's hill sends out the first wave, bearing notices to deliver to cities, towns and places like the Four Winds Inn — places adventurers frequent. The wording on the notices is brief and to the point: serving merely to inform readers of Ferein's situation, the location of the shard being sought, and that interested parties should meet at the Ferein Grove at a certain time and day.

The second wave, much smaller in number, is sent out some minutes later. Four flights disperse in different directions, each one accompanied by two doves. These fly to the mage towers and to Fenghuul, bearing a similar message and requesting politely that a representative be present at the meeting at the Grove.

The third and largest wave is sent off soon after, though not in any particular direction. Tasked with chattering about the meeting to anyone they encounter who's of a mind to listen, they fall upon their task with enthusiasm—speaking now to the farmers in their fields, now to a roaming adventurer.

Gwyneira watched them leave from the top of Mystique's hill. That was, of course, the easy part.

People were so much harder to coordinate.

((Just to re-iterate when the next session will be: 6pm UK time on Sunday 5th June, Ferein Grove))

Next event in this storyline will take place this coming Sunday 12th June, at 3.30 pm UK Time.

Apologies to those of you eslewhere but the early start is due to the likelihood that this event may well turn out to be quite a lengthy one.

Also - A REMINDER - anybody who is intending to help is once more urged to discuss with others the possibilty of seeking help from outside agencies, all of the mage towers, Ladriel, Naillamne, Ka'azim and Tel'Elena can be made available for negotiations, as can Malakai Fenghuul. Should you wish to make such negotiations and not have already done so, please PM either myself or all DMs and I/We will get back to you to try and make it happen IG.

((as an ooc aside, Malakai and Alianda are likely to be IG, at their usual locales, from 8pm UK time on Friday evening. They would agree to meet anyone who requested such a meeting. May be able to run them on Thursday evening, or Sunday before the event if needed. Can also run Naillamne's emissary at any of these times if needed. Alternately contact "the Ranger" who can arrange for someone to run a Ladriel guardian, or Naillamne at another time.))

On her way to Ladriel Shihaya'zad thought about what the archmage Malakai told her just a moment ago...

"If you face Nu'men, you will be dead...". She could have guessed that.
No doubt Malakai would not set a foot into Nethar'u. Either way, it was good to know Malakai was willing to support them from afar...he obviously liked the idea to surprise Nu'men and his demon hordes with some of his "tricks", as he called it in an amused tone..

"We just have to let him know so he can prepare."

"What about the quicklings?" Eleanor asked. While turning the pages of a tome in his laboratory carefully, he said with a thoughtful voice "Five dark quicklings, bound into a gem. Similar to a mage tower."
Apparently dark quicklings were the only of their race to confuse, even harm demons.
Distracting the demonkin at least for a short time. But this will not suffice, more aid is needed.

"Aid..." it echoed in her head again, remembering the seagull that approached her in Port Royale, slowly aging and dying, its eyes bleeding.
"You need to find aid or it will die."
She shook her head trying to suppress her understanding of the analogy.
"Ferein will not die."
But the time is short...

Still thinking about it, she found herself in the tower of Ladriel...Alianda standing in front of her smiling, in her robe of white and blue, surrounded by several magical wardings. Briefly her gaze met Calia and Fatima, standing on the other side of the room.

It didn´t take long they agreed a frontal assault on Nethar'u would not be a choice, but lead to a massacre.
They could not risk Nu'men´s attention if they wanted to get at least close to his temple. An effective diversion...
Alianda offered to ask the Celestials to take the attention from the group moving to the temple, by attacking another, the temple of Helkris. It should force Nu'men to leave his temple, but for how long.

"You will not have much more than two hours." Alianda said.

"What then?", Shihaya'zad thought, knowing the answer, but she didn´t even want to consider this to happen.

"He will unleash hell."

She looked back up at Alianda, as she mentioned the possibility of observing the temple, learning about its structure and what might await them there. Gathered in a circle holding their hands, their eyes closed, the High Priestess began to mutter a few incantations. Her hands shivered slightly, just before they were overwhelmed by a strange feeling as their spirits faded away from their bodies. Opening their eyes slowly, reorientating, they focused on a man kneeling in front of an altar.
Nu'men, silently praying in an odd language, forcing a shiver on each of them. He stood up, turning around sharply, staring into the distance...they stood like frozen. He felt something, that was sure, but fortunately he did not seem to recognize them, standing just a few feet face to face.

Next to him, a huge horned demon they thought to be the High Priest watched the other creatures in the temple silently. Creatures that only haunt you in your worst nightmares, an aura of pure evil that could drive one into madness.

In a small niche secured by magical wardings a rapier lay on the ground. As Shihaya'zad remembered the mention of such a weapon from a journey through Nethar'u, Calia said the name connected to it, "Daimon". What weapon would Nu'men keep in his inner sanctum other than his rapier?

"We will have to find Daimon, and obtain this weapon as soon as possible." Not many knew the depths of Nethar'u better than him, if any, and his skills combined with the weapon he forged in the fires of Fiirhallen...

Suddenly she felt being taken away, and in a matter of seconds she recognized the walls of the Ladriel tower. Relieved yet worried about what she has just experienced, she tried to clear her mind.

"A trip to hell...the most dangerous experience for most of them. Only the strongest will survive this..."
She frowned slightly, then left the temple after a brief dismissal.
It was time to prepare. To prepare a strategy, to find and prepare others.

"...It calls to me.... " Daimon's etheral voice broke the distant chanting in the evil depths of Nethar'u....

"Do not...cross the lights" The Atalan mage warned... her vision stood beside him... and the both of them gazed through the magical wards at the blade Daimon had forged in the Fires of Fiirhallen... by the grace of the Mother... and the Son, to protect the realms from Nethar'u's flood.

"How would these wards be removed?" Daimon asked, his gaze drifting to the tablet standing next to the blade. in its surface etched serveral runes of unknown meaning.

"Upon the tablet are Various....riddles." The Atalan said, turning to Daimon. "Their meaning is.... unknown, even to me." She frowned in concentration, and directed her scrutiny once more to the tablet. "They require a physical presence to become clear."

Daimon simply nodded in understanding. He smiled at a memory... a time when he and his friends of youth had held a riddle contest... he was always good with the Riddles, and none of his friends brought before him a riddle he could not cleverly solve. I was a different man then... a child... but I had not my wits taken... but an unpayable troll of a gatekeeper. Always must a price be paid. His thoughts drifted. If we are to succeed tomorrow in time, we will need the blade fast. But he would need to have a firm head on his shoulders were he to retrieve it.

"What are you doing!" Daimon chased after the mage who strolled up to Nu'men confidently. He slowed behind the back of his ultimate nemesis, who knelt deep in prayer. The Atalan mage by his side closing her eyes.

"He has it... Along with his power I sense.... something else." The Atalan nodded in recognition. " The shard." She opened her eyes and looked to Daimon, who stood stiffly next to her... the fingers of his right hand twitching slightly. "Remember... you are not here. Come... we shall return to Naillamne"

Daimon straightened a bit, and turned to her once more. "Very well," he replied. "We would return." He closed his eyes as she began chanting once more... and the world which was the depths of Nethar'u fell apart around him.... and he found himself once more floating in a void... his spirit being dragged back to the ancient tower of magic...

((Bumped as a reminder. 3 pm TODAY UK time... that is in just over 4 and a half hours time))

A few points to bear in mind. This is not something I would usually do but for those who haven't been able to make the various events it seemed best to point out OOC to make things absolutely clear.

1. Whatever you do today WILL have consequences one way or another for Ferein, Vives and yourselves.

2. From the time the party sets foot on the Isle of Nethar'u you wil have TWO AND A HALF HOURS MAXIMUM to complete whatever you wish to achieve and get out. This will be strictly enforced so plan ahead, and plan before you get there. Time is valuable.

3. Please allow for lag in your planing, we try to keep it as low as we can but it can be inevitable so bear it in mind. Pay attention to any shouts from the DM channel.

The event will comence as said above at 3pm UK time, approx 4 and a half hours from now, I would suggest the Broken Mask as the best place to meet. Hope you enjoy.

((EDIT - one further thing - anybody dying within the Temple of Menarok WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO RESPAWN please bear that in mind))

For those who may have thought otherwise, or have forgotten (shame on you!), we are not yet done.

I will be running bits and pieces during the week as I see appropriate players IG, following which the next major event (there will be at least one other following this) will take place on SUNDAY 10th July at 7 PM UK time

Locations, starting point etc will hopefully become clear during the week, but will be posted nearer the time. Once more level is not a consideration, all are welcome to take part.
